In 1985, several of my friends who are teachers and
coaches had informed me that many of the kids that they saw were eager to learn, but due to circumstances beyond their control,
didn't have the means to buy their school supplies, which leaves them unprepared for schoolwork.
I went out looking for donations from friends and businesses to
buy school supplies. I found many who were willing to help, and a lot of those are still sponsoring today, along with several
new sponsors who have joined us along the way.
So we added a little music, some games, and lots of good
food, and every kid in the park leaves with school supplies to start the new school year. And we call it: A
Day In The Park!
When my friends and I started this event in 1985, we were the only
group around to do anything like this. Now just look - groups all over the Tri-Cities area are picking up on it and helping
children....................and that's a good thing.
